Description: The people depicted here at the fountain are Quedlinburg personalities who shaped the history of the city. They are the dog Quedel, the heraldic animal of Quedlinburg, the first German female doctor Dorothea Christiane Erxleben, Henry teh First and his wife Mathilde as well as a figure that symbolically points to the enormous importance of Quedlinburg in seed breeding. Badges are affixed to Dorothea Erxleben’s stand. They are reminiscent of the great poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock and the gymnastics teacher Johann Christoph Friedrich GutsMuths and his pupil, the famous geographer Carl Ritter.
